Frequently asked questions about IBIT and Bitcoin
How much Bitcoin does one IBIT share represent?
We divide the fund’s BTC holdings by outstanding IBIT shares, using the same iShares report. Enter 1 IBIT to see the equivalent and the report date. BTC per share is not constant: it tends to decrease gradually due to the fund’s fees and expenses.
How many IBIT shares equal one Bitcoin?
Choose BTC as the source and enter 1. We divide that BTC by the BTC per share from the available report. The share count can be fractional and is shown as a theoretical equivalent; when IBIT is the source, the calculator uses whole shares.
How do I calculate my equivalent cost per Bitcoin?
In Equivalent cost per BTC, enter your average USD price per IBIT share. We divide that price by the BTC per share from the available report. This is the cost per BTC of your current exposure: it does not reconstruct Bitcoin prices on your purchase dates or include fees and trading spreads.
Can I withdraw that Bitcoin to a wallet?
No. The calculator shows equivalent Bitcoin exposure through IBIT. Holding IBIT shares or their CEDEARs is not the same as holding BTC in your own wallet. The tool does not buy, sell or transfer assets and is not affiliated with BlackRock or iShares.
How is it calculated?
IBIT and Bitcoin
We divide the fund’s BTC by outstanding IBIT shares, using the same iShares report.
Buying or selling IBIT on the exchange transfers shares between buyers and sellers; this alone does not require the fund to buy or sell BTC. When shares are created or redeemed, authorized participants contribute or withdraw BTC, or cash for those transactions. Both the fund’s assets and its share count change, so inflows alone do not increase BTC per share.
BTC and satoshis per share are not constant: they tend to decrease gradually due to the fund’s fees and expenses. We therefore use the equivalent from the available report. IBIT’s market price can also trade above or below the value of its assets.

1 BTC = 100000000 sats. We multiply BTC exposure by that amount. Satoshis are entered and displayed without commas, dots or decimal places. If the equivalent is fractional, the result is rounded to the nearest whole number (0.5 rounds up) with an approximation indicator; using it as the source recalculates with that whole number.
US dollars and IBIT
We divide USD by the IBIT share price retrieved from the Finnhub API and round to the nearest whole number: half a share or more adds one unit; a smaller fraction is discarded. Other results use the whole shares. We show their value and any amount left over or needed. IBIT is entered in whole units; fractions shown from BTC or satoshis are theoretical equivalents. USD values IBIT and does not represent Bitcoin’s spot price or the fund’s NAV.

Always enter the average USD price per IBIT share, regardless of the source selected in the converter. We divide the price by the BTC represented by each share to obtain the equivalent cost of 1 BTC, using the IBIT report shown on screen.
When you enter an average price per IBIT share, we use the equivalent from the latest available report to show your cost per BTC of current exposure. If each share represents less BTC due to the fund’s fees and expenses, your equivalent cost per BTC increases even without new purchases. Your average purchase price stays the same.
Changing the amount does not change the cost per BTC. The calculation uses your entered cost and the fund’s equivalent; it does not reconstruct BTC prices or exchange rates on your purchase dates. The main amount continues to convert at current quotes. Calculating a historical average would require purchases and their dates.
For a cost entered per IBIT, the result expresses the cost per BTC of exposure using that report. It is a reference, not an exact BTC price at which you would recover your investment: IBIT’s premium or discount and trading costs also matter.
BTC and satoshis represent equivalent exposure through IBIT. Amounts are valuation references, excluding fees and trading spreads.
